Party all night long “Night Life” of the festival takes place in the Aquarium on Bačvice (the journey from the open-air cinema is only 40 meters long so you don’t get tired). Warming up for the party starts around 23h, after the first film, but the real thing starts after the second film. Tickets for any film are your tickets for the party so keep your tickets! That doesn’t mean others can’t get in, everyone is invited (anyone can come in, drinks are not expensive), but if the place gets crowded people who have the tickets are the first in line. “Smuggling” alcohol is not allowed! In case the Aquarium gets overcrowded or in case of problems, number of people inside will be limited. Party list: TUESDAY May 27th; With a Taste of Sea, With a Taste of salt Thursday May 29th 4reaL by DJ REA REA was born in Sarajevo 25 years ago, but during the war she first moved to Split, and later to Zagreb. 30.03 First movies in competition We are proud to present this year’s first films in the competition. Two treats from last year’s Cannes film festival; LE SCAPHANDRE ET LE PAPILLON, by Julian Schnabel and THE EDGE OF HEAVEN by Fatih Akin. Le Scaphandre et le Papillon or the Diving Bell and The Butterfly is a film based on an autobiography of the former editor of French edition of Elle magazine, Jean Dominique Bauby who suffered a stroke in 1995, when he was 43 years old. That left his entire body paralyzed, except for his left eye. Bauby powerfully describes the state of his inner world; emotional torment of being trapped inside his own body and tells us stories from worlds he visited only in his imagination. The film won two awards last year in Cannes, one of which is for best director. It won two Golden Globes this year; for best director and best foreign film; it has been nominated for this year’s Oscar in four categories, two of which for best director and adapted screenplay, and is nominated for 7 Cesar awards. The film is a winner in various categories on twenty more festivals with as many nominations. Fatih Akin won the prestigious Golden Bear, the highest award of Berlin International Film Festival for his film Head On in 2004. He won the audience award from the European Film Academy. He is also the author of the documentary film Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul. Akin brings us another story about the assimilation of immigrants into western society. The protagonist is a professor of Turkish origin. His father, while drunk, kills his mistress in Bremen. He travels to Turkey to provide financial help for the mistresses’ daughter but he doesn’t know she’s a political radical who is hiding from the Turkish authorities. German diva Hanna Schygulla plays the mother of the German student that gets killed in Istanbul. Film The Edge of Heaven won the award for best screenplay, and the Ecumenical Prize award last year in Cannes; was given the award for best screenplay by the European film Academy and was one of the nominees for this year’s Cesar in foreign movie category.
