Gay couple, Gustaf Hofer and Luca Ragazzi, takes us on a voyage through Italian politics and homophobic core of the society in the low-budget documentary Suddenly, Last Winter. Film follows the Italian senate during the winter 2007.when it refused to pass the law which would equal the rights and status of same-sex couples. The film also deals with reluctance of religious institutions to accept the non-traditional family. Political discussions between politicians, religious leaders and interviews with people on the street who are protesting against the suggested law near Vatican have been captured on film.

Malicious comments and views about their way of life shock the directors. Their sarcastic (and funny) approach complements the tragic and narrow-minded points of view.

Gustav Hofer and Luca Ragazzi; directors and life partners are the creators of the documentary Suddenly, Last Winter. Their debut, deals with the rights of sexual minorities in Italy. They approach the subject by exchanging ideas with people on the street and with Italian political and religious establishment. On this year’s Berlin Film Festival the movie was shown in the Panorama section and was nominated for the Teddy award given to films that have a gay and/or lesbian context.
